Holiday Brunch At Cafe Deco.

During the holidays we took the tram up to the Peak and had Sunday brunch at Cafe Deco. This was our first time taking the kids with us, and they thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent up there eating off of the buffet. The weather in Hong Kong had suddenly turned rainy and dreary, so our view of the city wasn't too clear, but it was a cozy experience to be up on the top of the mountain surrounded in fog.

The buffet is reasonably priced for a brunch buffet in Hong Kong, but for the United States, we probably would have thought twice about paying that price for a meal. I say all the time that living in Hong Kong has warped our mentality towards finances!

The kids loved the games/play activities that Cafe Deco provides. Our daughter enjoyed having a woman dressed in a Spiderman costume paint on her hand and blow up a heart flower balloon for her. Our son stuck to the board games and though they are geared towards a younger age, it was still fun for him to play around on them while he waited for his sister.

Anniversary With A View.

Hong Kong offers wonderful skyline views, and so we took full advantage of them on our anniversary. It was such a special treat to have two couples taking care of our children, allowing my husband and I to have some much needed quality time alone {my primary love language}!

We did a couple's massage {my husband's first massage} and ate sushi. We had brunch up at Cafe Deco on top of The Peak. We had mocktails and salad on the waterfront at Wooloomooloo in TST. But most importantly we just talked, and we talked, and then we talked some more. We reflected back on our year here in Hong Kong. How our expectations are similar or different from before we came out here. We came back to our apartment and listened to a talk from Joyce Meyer while the kids were still out swimming and eating pizza with the second set of couples who watched them. Being alone in our tiny apartment was so refreshing! This was a fantastic anniversary celebration!!!

The Peak.

After a Good Friday church service, we took my parents up to The Peak, hoping we could see the lights of Hong Kong at night. The line for the tram was long, but we made friends with the college girls who were visiting from mainland China that were standing in line next to us. Making friends helped to pass the hour we stood in line. Once we got up to the top of the peak, we had no luck being able to see any of the lights from either Hong Kong Island or Kowloon. As soon as we were at the top, the fog was thick and we were walking in the clouds.

We were disappointed, but made the most out of the situation by leaving our two kids with Grandpa and Grandma to eat at Burger King, while my husband and I went up to Bubba Gump for a dinner date. With my parents here in Hong Kong, my husband and I tried to grab as many opportunities as we possibly could to go on a date alone. With no nanny for our kids, dates for us are few and far between.

The service up at Bubba Gump was great. We ordered food that reminded us of South Carolina - sometimes you just need comfort food. Low country boil is a favorite of mine and my husband enjoyed the ribs. It's been nine months since the last time we've tasted either of them!

Taking The Tram Up To The Peak.

While our kids were on a week long holiday from school, our family tried to see a few tourist attractions here in Hong Kong. There was one day where the kids really wanted to take the tram and ride it all the way up to the Peak.  The Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island.

We didn't pick a great day for the view. We realized when we arrived at the top of the Peak that there was so much pollution over the city, so we didn't get to see too far and it wasn't a clear view. Looking out from the top of the deck of the Sky Terrace, the sun was hot and our kids started to wilt fast, but they perked up as soon as they saw Burger King. I did a silent inward groan as our family found our way into the doors of the fast food chain and sat down at a table, but I find that when you travel with children, you have to make sacrifices and sometimes it's better to compromise for the greater good of the whole family.

My husband and I weren't fully prepared for the Peak targeting tourists. It completely reminded us of being back home in Myrtle Beach! Everything was directed to lure tourists in to spend their money. A person that loves to shop would feel right at home at the top of the Peak.

Our two children enjoyed the ghoulish actors spilling out of the Fright Dome and walking among the tourists in an attempt to scare them.
