Biking In New Territories.

A local friend of ours suggested that one Saturday our two families take a bus out to the New Territories to rent bikes together so we could ride to a local farm and pick strawberries. In Hong Kong, strawberry season is in January as opposed to May like South Carolina.

The bus dropped us off directly in front of the bike rental shops in Yuen Long. It's wonderful having a local friend that speaks the language, since she was able to negotiate a better price for our two families. We made sure the bikes were the right size for the kids, added training wheels for the two youngest, added a basket for the front of my bike, and we were off like a herd of turtles.

The bike path was clearly marked out for us, but we decided to take a couple detours, causing us to get lost a couple times. Our kids did wonderful, with my oldest son being an experienced biker and my daughter trucking along. She did great with the hills, training wheels, driving through pedestrians on foot walking the narrow sidewalks, and having to cross busy streets with vehicles taking the right of way.
