Lion's Nature Education Centre.

My daughter's kindergarten class took a field trip to Lion's Nature Education Centre in Sai Kung. Imagine seventy-five five year old children (the majority having been raised in the concrete city of Hong Kong) walking through vegetable gardens, dodging muddy paths.

One of the highlights of the day was coming across a snake that had a little frog in its mouth, trying to swallow it for dinner. These city kids were both terrified and in awe.

The park offers a wide variety of activities and exhibits to walk through. Between the Fisheries Hall, the Agriculture Hall, the Shell House, and the Insectarium, we had plenty to look at and before we knew it we were all loaded back on the bus to go back to school.

I realize this wasn't a field trip for me, but I personally enjoyed walking through the vegetable gardens as well as all the different orchards with various fruit trees. Our school was not the only school visiting the park. We had all packed a picnic lunch as well as a snack, and during the noon hour you could see different clusters of school aged kids in their different uniforms eating lunch. Although there was a cafeteria on sight, it wasn't open while we were there, so if you visit you might want to bring along a snack.
