Summer Watermelon.

The weather quickly turned sweltering and muggy in Hong Kong. We've started summer off eating my daughter's watermelon cake, and the leftovers that came with the cake making! Fruit salad on a hot day is always a welcome relief from the heat and humidity.

I really wanted to take family pictures to commemorate our time here in Hong Kong, but after inquiring what photographers charge to take pictures, I could not bring myself to pay five hundred USD for a product that my husband and I would not be satisfied with. So I decided to take my children to the Kowloon Walled City Park and try my own had at photographing them. 

Valentine's Day. What's That?

Chinese New Year completely overshadows Valentine's Day which falls on the same week. Valentine's Day is definitely not the same commercial holiday as it is back in North America, but that didn't stop our family from throwing a party for some of the other homeschooling families that had stayed in town for the holiday.

Thankfully, the weather cooperated for our party and we were able to have it out on the back patio. Our 400 square foot home is too small to have a party inside, but the patio area provides the perfect entertaining spot to host gatherings. The kids crafted on the picnic table and then played Uno inside. The moms chatted while my lovely assistant entertained the kids. The kids left the party on a sugar high after eating donuts and drinking cotton candy!

It's My Birthday.

I am thankful for another year of life, I am thankful for my family, and I am thankful that there are some exciting {albeit completely unknown to me} changes in our near future. This year will see our family making another big change as my husband finishes his contract with his current job here in Hong Kong. We have done our first year of homeschooling and I know that our family is closer as a cohesive unit now than we have ever been. For that I am very thankful. 

Halloween At Home.

The week of Halloween, I put together a small Halloween playdate for our kids with their friends. I warned my kids that since it was fall break from school the turn out would be small as many of them travel during a holiday. {Oh the joys of living an expat life.} Our best friends here in Hong Kong made it to the party and we all dressed in character and consumed too much sugar. I set the party up on the patio, and thankfully the weather cooperated! There was no rain, the heat was not sweltering, and the humidity was not too bad. However, I need to remember that cotton candy and humidity just do not go together!!! I have not been doing as many events here in Hong Kong as I was back in South Carolina, and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to be creative again.
