I haven't written about our reasons for homeschooling our kids this year, but one thing that I really appreciate about this season in our life, is the time that is now available for them to just pick up a book and read to themselves for hours at a time. We have a morning system established since the kids wake up at the first sign of sunlight, and well before I am ready and functioning. My son gets to lay in bed and read a book, while my daughter takes down her word book and her notebook that she copies the words into. Then I wake up, fix all three of us breakfast, and we begin our day of school.
